Volunteers train for the forthcoming WIC

2017-11-20

Trainings were held at Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang province on Nov 19 to get volunteers up to speed for the Fourth World Internet Conference to be held in Wuzhen in less than two weeks' time.

Etiquette, WIC knowledge and information about Tongxiang and Wuzhen were all included in the training sessions.

Xu Wanqing from Hangzhou Dianzi University is nervous and excited about the upcoming global conference. She is in charge of the volunteer recruitment work at her school but failed to apply last year.

"I don't want to miss the chance again so I signed up for this year's event as soon as I was informed," Xu said.

The selection of the volunteers began this May, and after two rounds of interviews, 1,240 people were selected from the 10,000 people who submitted applications.

Yan Xiaolong, senior lecturer of the Etiquette and Image Management Center of Zhejiang University, gave detailed instructions on posture and gesture to the 700 volunteers present.

"The etiquette service post has stricter requirements for candidates in both ability and appearance," said Cao Ting, one of the volunteers.

It is the second time for Cao, from the Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, to join the volunteer team.

"We have to remember the names and faces of at most 16 foreign guests to provide a smooth guidance service." Cao said. "It was tiring but also interesting."

The volunteers were divided into 10 teams of 12 categories, to provide services such as language interpretation, reception and guidance.

Dai Yuanyuan and another teacher from the Zhejiang University of Technology will work in the VIP service group, it her fourth time working at the conference.

"Before I worked 60 hours straight but I just wanted to try my best," Dai said. She shared her experiences from the WIC conference to encourage more students to get involved.

The professional training and position practice will start from Nov 27.
