The Spring Festival is a time of hope and recovery. In 2020, the world has joined hands to overcome unprecedented difficulties, and as spring returns with the hope for a wider availability of vaccines, we eagerly anticipate a more prosperous new year.
In 2020, the global mobile industry has played a critical role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. From the rapid deployments of 4G/5G networks to provide emergency communication; 5G remote ultrasound diagnosis and treatment; 5G-empowered thermal imaging body temperature detection; and to supporting people to work and study from home, 5G is the underlying technology that made it all better.
By the end of 2020, the total number of 5G connections in China has exceeded 200 million, accounting for the vast majority of 5G connections globally. China has put 5G as a key driver for the country's new infrastructure, and has developed into the world’s largest 5G market by far, helped by more affordable 5G devices and networks of nearly 720,000 5G base stations.
I look forward to returning to Wuzhen this year to discuss with fellow stakeholders how the mobile industry can continue to support economic recovery.
I wish you all a happy Chinese New Year of the Ox.
