China is expected to amend more than 200 national and industrial standards of smart manufacturing and to build over 2,000 smart application scenarios for new technologies by 2025, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on April 14.

Manufacturing has become a focus in global competition of technology and industry.

Examples are the Strategy for American Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing, Germany's National Industrial Strategy 2030 and the European Union's Industry 5.0.

To promote development of China's manufacturing, MIIT suggested popularization of digitalization in manufacturing enterprises above designated size and realization of primary smart transformation of backbone enterprises in key industries by 2025.

In addition, China should have more than 10 system solution providers with main operation income exceeding 5 billion yuan ($771 million), and build more than 120 industrial internet platforms with industrial and regional impact.

Over 200 national and industrial standards of smart manufacturing are also expected to be amended by that time.

Applications of such new technologies as digital twins, artificial intelligence, 5G and blockchains will be promoted in the next five years, and will include developing more than 2,000 new technology-based smart scenarios, building over 1,000 smart workshops and 100 industrial-leading smart factories and incubating 100 smart supply chains.

MIIT also stressed that China will improve self supply, strengthen industrial system advantages and accelerate development of equipment, software and system solutions to boost the smart manufacturing industry.

China will promote cooperation between enterprises, universities and research institutes to make breakthroughs of basic components and facilities, and complete information infrastructure by expanding the industrial internet, the internet of things, 5G and gigabit optical networks.
