The number of 5G network users in China exceeded 160 million by the end of 2020, accounting for 89 percent of the world's total, according to the China Internet Development Report 2021.
China has built the world's largest optical network and completed a 4G and 5G standalone network and 916,000 5G base stations across the country, accounting for 70 percent of the world's total.

In addition to 5G, China will also increase support and investment in other fundamental core technologies like big data, basic software, industrial software and artificial intelligence in the near future and will push forward upgrading and modernization of industrial bases and chains to consolidate industrial development foundation.
In terms of the current development of these industries in China, He Guili, vice president of the Internet Society of China, said that value of industrial scale of big data, AI and the internet of things were 71.87 billion yuan ($11.05 billion), 303.1 billion yuan and 1.7 trillion yuan in 2020.
A key part of the new infrastructure construction, cloud computing has seen continuous development in recent years with breakthroughs made in key technologies.
In 2020, China's cloud computing gained 178.1 billion yuan in overall market value, with a growth rate of more than 33 percent.
