Building the digital village is a strategic policy of China's rural revitalization and a key part of the construction of digital China, said Liu Guicai, chief engineer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Information Center.

A forum on digital rural development was held on July 27 in Jinggangshan, East China's Jiangxi province.

At the forum, Liu said that the Chinese government highly values digital rural development and has stressed accelerating digital village construction, building a comprehensive information service system for agricultural sectors and villages, establishing an agriculture-related inclusive information service mechanism and pushing forward a digital rural management service in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

He suggested that China should speed up construction of digital agriculture by adopting information technology in agricultural production and promoting the digital transformation of the sector; strengthening the development of the core technologies of digital agriculture such as agriculture big data, agricultural condition tridimensional perception and smart management of crops; and improving the quality and efficiency of agricultural production by launching information service platforms and developing a cloud service model for mass production and standard cooperation.

Liu also confirmed Jiangxi's achievement in digital village construction and its leading role in grain production, saying that Jiangxi is a main agricultural product production and supply base and is renowned as the granary region south of the Yangtze River.

One of only two provinces that have never ceased commodity grain export since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Jiangxi has achieved a satisfying performance in its annual grain output of more than 21.5 billion kilograms for eight continuous years.
