Tianjin Port Group recently announced at the China Ports Association 2021 Green and Safe Ports Conference that it will get down to construction of the world's first artificial intelligence zero carbon terminal.
Yang Jiemin, vice president of Tianjin Port Group, told Science and Technology Daily that the terminal is expected to realize 100 percent clean energy and self-sufficiency in annual energy consumption.
All loading, transporting and supporting facilities at the terminal will be powered by electricity generated by the integrated wind, solar and storage system. Advanced energy monitoring technology will also be used to guarantee zero emission of carbon dioxide.
According to Chen Yanping, deputy general-manager of Tianjin Port Group Kexin Facilities Department, the terminal is designed with a maximum annual energy consumption of 47 million kilowatt-hours.
To realize complete green power supply, the company built two 4.5-megawatt wind power generators and a 1.83-MW photovoltaic power generation system. They will be put into operation when the main body of the terminal is completed.
She added that with increasing terminal throughput, the generator and power generation system will be expanded in 2022 to ensure long-term zero carbon emission.
Zhao Hongbo, vice president of the Tianjin Institute of Water Transport Science and Research, Ministry of Transport, said the institute is currently cooperating with Tianjin Port to improve energy-conserving and reduce emissions by promoting applications of new energy technologies and upgrading traditional facilities.
These technologies are expected to be applied to more ports in the future.
The terminal is scheduled to be completed and put into operation at the end of this year.
