Here is Mr Kaspersky's speech:

Hello everybody! I am Eugene Kaspersky.

We are living in a very strange time. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the whole world, and it has also changed cybercrime, cybersecurity and the whole of cyberspace.

People spend more time online; many enterprises are sending employees home and they (the employees) then work from home. Still, not every enterprise is able to guarantee the same level of security for their home employees, and unfortunately the bad guys actively use this.

The COVID-19 pandemic stimulated and enabled cybercrime. Before COVID-19, we were collecting about 350,000 new malicious files every day. Now, we collect more than 400,000. So cybercriminal activity increased by 20 to 25 percent during the pandemic period.

Unfortunately, this biological virus is not easy to fight. If it was cyber, we would have analyzed it within a day (or maximum two days) and released an antidote for everyone. We would also have written a technical article about it or a press release and, finally, we would have saved the world.

Unfortunately, we are living with this biological stuff, I am afraid, for a long time. The cyber landscape is changing. And I think that even if the world gets back to normal, it will still be a little bit different than before.

We now use much more online technology. We use it to communicate in our private life, in our personal life, we use it to connect to our office for work. There are more and more demands from the industrial sector to operate with physical systems remotely. All that is changing. The cyberspace is changing cybersecurity. There is more demand on security services, because the enterprises, businesses, and especially small and medium businesses want to have more security as a service. There is more demand from the industrial sector for safe and secure remote connections and remote operations.

That is why cybersecurity is getting much more important than before and I believe that it will stay that way forever - the importance of cybersecurity, its importance in protecting online communications and online services. That is why it is good news for cybersecurity companies. We have a lot of work to do to save this world!

Thank you very much!
