Preface to The Charm of Science and Technology

Throughout the history of human civilization, along with openness, communication, and cooperation, many remarkable technological innovations have profoundly influenced the development of the world. From the birth of the World Wide Web to the mobile internet becoming the main force in the new round of global internet development, to the Internet of Everything today, internet technology is changing with each passing day, constantly pushing human society into a new era of digital civilization, showing the irresistible charm of science and technology.

At present, the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is advancing by leaps and bounds, and the digital economy is becoming an increasingly important direction of world economic development. Advancing the development of the internet, promoting economic and social progress, and sharing internet scientific and technological achievements is the shared vision of people of all countries. In the face of severe challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, internet innovation has helped the digital economy buck the trend and become an important driving force for global economic recovery. This year's event will showcase outstanding scientific and technological achievements in these fields to the world, explore the opportunities and potential of digitization empowering global development, promote the development of the world's digital economy, and jointly build a community with a shared future in cyberspace.

This year marks the sixth consecutive year that the event has been held and the sixth year that I have served as the Chinese director of the Recommendation Committee for World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements. Under the guidance of Mr. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Chairman of the China Zhi Gong Party Central Committee and President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), and with the strong support of Dr. Werner Zorn, foreign director of the Expert Recommendation Committee, 62 were selected and compiled into this book after online solicitation and recommendation. I believe that in the near future, these achievements will give full play to the charm of internet technology and create a promising new future.
