Daren Tang, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), delivered a speech at the 2021 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit held from Sept 26 to 28 in East China's Zhejiang province.
In his speech, Tang said that intangible assets are becoming forces to reshape the modern economy and support reconstruction in the post-pandemic era.
The WIPO plays a critical role in the new economy, as the number of applications for its Global IP Services has risen despite the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
As for digital technology, Tang said the WIPO has organized four sessions of the WIPO Conversation on IP and AI, which brought together stakeholders to discuss how AI, big data and other emerging technologies interface with the global IP system.
Finally, he affirmed China's leading position in several important IP indicators and its strong performance in WIPO's Global Innovation Index over recent years and said the WIPO will step up efforts to build an inclusive, balanced and forward-looking IP ecosystem that benefits everyone, everywhere.
