The Internet of Things could well be the next El Dorado for the tech industry in China as companies scramble to put everything online, experts said on Thursday.
While universal standard is necessary to the development of Internet, excessively specific standard may hinder innovation, said a leading Chinese expert at a sub forum of the Second WIC on Friday.
The CEO of a leading Chinese online travel agency said he was inspired by President Xi's remarks about "smart tourism" at the WIC as environmental protection could boost tourism development in the long run.
More enterprises in the Internet era should become a 'customer operator ', rather than only be a product provider, said Edward Tian, chairman of China Broadband Capital.
Internet development should move toward creating smart technologies that boost Internet of Things, connecting hardware devices with users, data and services, said Yang Yuanqing, chief executive of Lenovo Group.
"China clearly has a very dynamic Internet sector, and is a world leader in segments such as mobile Internet," said Duncan Innes-Ker, regional editor for Asia at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), told China Daily in London on Tuesday.
